Disc 1. Ready to Roll - Days 1-7 Hugh Rowland, sets off for Yellowknife with his fleet of four trucks. Known as the Polar Bear, Hugh is a 20-year veteran of the ice roads. His drivers include Rick Yemm, a second year man on the ice and everyone's comic relief, Drew Sherwood and Todd White, both rookies who are not sure whether they have what it takes in the world of ultimate trucking. But they're driving 1,400 miles north to find out. Disc 2. Destination Diamond Mine - Days 8-14 After a bone-chilling season, join the truckers as they thaw out their differences in one final showdown. The six truckers gather at a remote truck stop in Canada to thaw out their differences and provide answers to some of the season's unanswered questions. Tensions are high as both Rick and Drew have not spoken to Hugh since leaving the ice roads prematurely. T.J., the rookie, has had time to reflect on his time up north and will discuss whether or not he'll be back up on the ice roads next year. Alex and Jay, full-time residents of Yellowknife, are sure to have some thoughts on how the locals feel about the attention being given to their small town. Disc 3. Dash for the Cash & The Big Chill - Days 15-19 Disc 4. Midseason Mayhem - Days 20-25 It's halfway through the grueling ice road season. Six hundred truckers have ferried more than 4,000 loads to the northern mines. They still have 6,000 left to go, but everyday roadblocks threaten their progress. Blowouts are appearing in the ice as a result of reckless driving. Todd White, one of Hugh Rowland's drivers, is busted for speeding. Road officials offer no second chances and he is kicked off the road. It's the second week of the ice road season and the brutal temperatures of -40 degrees are already taking their toll. While hauling a 44,000 pound load, Alex encounters a severe arctic storm that causes white out conditions. Rookie TJ Tilcox is also caught and is driving blind, unsure of which way the road turns. Rick Yemm's lead on his boss Hugh is threatened when he discovers mechanical problems. His truck goes into the shop at a loss of $1000 per day, while Hugh, the Polar Bear, closes in. Rookie Drew Sherwood, who hit a ditch on his first trip, loses his battery box on the road and is back in the shop with no power. Until his truck gets repaired, he's off the road and not making a dime. Disc 5. Driving on the Ice - Days 26-29 Its nearly a month since the start of the season and Jay Westgard embarks on a trip to the De Beers mine with a critical 95,000-pound diamond ore scrubber. As soon as he pulls out of the yard, it's clear this haul will be a challenge. It's top heavy and rocks the trailer around every corner. For the next twelve hours, this load continues to test this young veteran. Disc 6. Synopsis
The mines of northern Canada contain billions of dollars worth of gold and diamonds, but the only way to get supplies to those mines is a treacherous 350-mile-long road across frozen lakes--which don't always stay frozen.
